Thursday Night Racing in Porto Montenegro

We were able to participate in week night racing at Porto Montenegro on Thursday night thanks to Becky, one of the sales people here at the Porto Montenegro.

The Porto has purchased 4 Blue 26 One Designs and guests of the residences and marina are allowed to use them.

Rob and I were teamed up with a lovely fellow named Yuri and his twelve year old son, also named Yuri.  We called them big and little Yuri.

We had a lovely time and completed 4 races.  We were 2-1-1-1 and little Yuri was pretty proud!

We enjoyed a beer and casual dinner at the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club after sailing.  These folks at Porto Montenegro have really thought of everything!

We got to know Yuri and Yuri and his wife, Tatiana and daughter, Nika.  Wonderful family.  Nika just won 7th place in the world in ballroom dancing in the under 19 category.  She is only 16!   She is moving to London, England to continue her studies and pursue dancing with her new partner who is from London.  Tatiana plays the piano, Little Yuri plays the drums, and big Yuri plays the harmonica which he played for us at the yacht club over dinner.

They invited us to dinner the following evening which was fabulous.  We went to the very famous Sveti Stephan which is a very small island just south of Budva.  It was just under an hours drive from Tivat.

Sveti Stephan is a very small island attached to the mainland by a thin pier.  It was a fishing village for many years.  It was hard living with no electricity or water there and the fishermen and their famiies eventually moved onto the mainland.

The Aman Hotel group purchased the island and turned it into a very high end resort.  They have just celebrated their 50th anniversary.  If you have 900 Euros ($1400 Cdn) you can enjoy a night here in the least expensive room!
